David Blaine Breaks Breath-Holding Record

A record that has very little to do with anything I guess, as most records people try to accomplish. Holding your breath under water may have some uses I suppose. For instance if your water bed bursts while you sleep and you don’t wake up..lol I prefer a memory foam mattress myself, but some still use water beds apparently. Never really enjoyed them. Wasn’t the comfort, but more the temperature. IT was either way too hot, or way too cold.

Anyways, Blaine attempted, and succeeded in breaking the record for the longest a person has ever held their breath (documented) on the Oprah Winfrey Show during a live broadcast. The old record was set March, 10 2007 in which Switzerland’s Peter Colat, according to Guinness World Record held his breath for 16 minutes and 32 seconds. Blaine smashed the record by staying submerged in an underwater tank for 17 minutes and 4 seconds on the Oprah Winfrey Show earlier this week fulfilling what he called a “life-long dream”.

In May 2006 as a finale to a week spent in an aquarium with an oxygen mask at New York’s Lincoln Center, Blaine tried to set another type of breath-holding record. Without breathing pure oxygen beforehand, he tried to break the existing record of 8 minutes, 58 seconds for an attempt of that type.

But he had to be rescued shortly after 7 minutes when he was unconscious and having convulsions. Not the case this time as he was able to break the record.
