Talk Like a Pirate Day! September 19th

Talk about a silly concept argghhhh.

I guess some matey (yeah..that’s enough of that facade) did well enough marketing this idea that they have gotten it to be officially called “International Pirate Day”, or “Official Talk Like a Pirate Day”. Either that or got enough people drunk together to spread the word.

It appears that this is the self-proclaimed official site of “Talk Like a Pirate Day”. They have even given you tips on How to talk like a pirate, also in German! They tell you why, the history, if there really is one, and share the pirate party plans.

While this is just some lighthearted fun, it seems as if this has become pretty well known over the last few years. At least i tend to hear about it year after year now. Maybe the Facebook Pirate Ap with ads for apidexin all over it has a lot to do with it ;) .

Give me your booty!

What? :D

Cash For Clunkers: Get Vouchers For Fuel Efficient Cars

The Cash For Clunkers Senate Bill was designed to give anyone driving a low MPG vehicle the ability to offset some of the cost of switching to a more fuel efficient car.

If you want to read through all the lawyer-speak above have at it, but this is pretty much the deal:

1. $3,500 voucher if the new fuel efficient automobile is a passenger automobile and the combined fuel economy value of car is at least 4 miles per gallon higher than the combined fuel economy value of the eligible trade-in vehicle. It must be only 2 MPG better for eligible trucks.

2. You can get $4,500 if your trade in car gets at least 10 MPG less than the new economy fuel vehicle. 5 MPG less if you are trading in a truck.

3. The program lasts from March 30, 2009 until….

“the day that is 1 year after the date on which the regulations promulgated under subsection are implemented.”

——————–
Basically if your car is eating your wallet at the gas pump, they want you to get rid of it and get one that does it just a little bit less. I mean saving 2 MPG isn’t that big a deal really is it? No. No it isn’t.

Unfortunately I can see the writing on the wall in regards to the value of our current “non-fuel efficient” cars we have now. The Blue Book on these puppies are going to drop dramatically I would guess and the offset is going to literally be a wash at some point. At least I have a very good feeling this is what will happen.

Now if you are broke, and need a vehicle, what is stopping you from swooping in and taking advantage of the Blue Book drops on the current cars out there? Not much I reckon. So basically instead of “Going Green” the people suffering from this horrid economy will be saving green by NOT “Going Green”. Get what I’m saying here?

Instead of helping people get their bcbsnc (Blue Cross Blue Shiled) health insurance cheaper, we are “Going Green” instead. Yay!

‘Wizard of Oz’ Munchkins Get Star on Walk of Fame

Seven of the nine surviving Munchkins from the 1939 movie were on hand to accept their honor on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. These Munchkins are thought to be the only living actors still that were in the original movie. Pretty amazing considering they are MUNCHKINS. Wonder what kind of miracle nutritional supplements these guys had their hands on eh?

The Munchkins finally got their just due after a 68-year wait according to AOL in their article ‘Wizard of Oz’ Munchkins Get Their Star.

“It feels great to be here,” said Jerry Maren, 88, waving a lollipop to mark his role in the movie as a member of the Lollipop Guild.

“With their joyous send-off for Dorothy as she began her journey down the Yellow Brick Road, the Munchkins secured their place in Hollywood history and in the hearts of movie fans everywhere,” wrote director George Lucas in a letter of support for the nomination.

Hannah Montana to Appear at Houston Rodeo & Livestock Show

The Houston Livestock Rodeo has just gotten a big boost of press to the younger generation since we will now see Miley Cyrus as Hannah Montana at the Houston Rodeo. Miley Cyrus, the star of TV’s Hanah Montana Show on the Disney channel has decided that she will attend the major event this year. The series focuses on Miley Stewart (played by Miley Cyrus), who lives a double life as an average teenage girl at school during the day and a famous pop singer, Hannah Montana, at night, concealing her real identity from the public other than her close friends and family.

The Houston Rodeo however, is always a great experience that features major artists who perform their music at shows. I was supposed to go with my boys last year and see one of my favorites John Fogerty perform. He’s one of those guys that used to be in Credence Clearwater Revival in case you are a complete music newbie. They wrote tons of classics you have surely heard in many movies like “Bad Moon Rising”, Rollin’ on a River”, etc. Anyways, I got jerked around at work and ended up having to stay home instead of going to this bad ass experience. This is basically the biggest rodeo in the world and they bring in probably over a million people every year. Best yet, they know how to party down there so it is one hell of a time…at least that is what I got to hear about for close to a month after my friends got back.

This year I guess Miley Cyrus, or Hannah Montana as she is probably known better, is going to be hanging out this year. Should be interesting to see what kind of crowd she attracts. Miley Cyrus, is definitely much more well known by the younger generation so there may be quite a few yonger fans at the rodeo. Pretty cool though since this should be an amazing experience for them and one they will never forget. Maybe they will even become big rodeo fans since they are going to gget to take part in it so young. Definitely not a bad thing.
